Light & Volume

Inspired by James Turrell’s light projections, I tried to recreate the illusion of volume using the corner of a room and the shape of a cube cut out of a sheet of black paper. The outcome is very surprising. Even though I knew very well it was not an actual cube, when I looked at it, a cube of light immaterialized in front of me. Due to our preconceived notions of space, our brain recognizes certain shapes to be three dimensional even though they’re not.
